Synopsis
The Plant Manager will oversee all operational activities of construction and plant management, continuously striving to enhance the quality of work to meet established standards and client expectations. They will effectively manage team performance while ensuring strict adherence to health and safety regulations. Additionally, they will exercise control over expenditures, ensuring that capital requirements remain within the allocated budget.
Qualification and Experience
Grade 12
University Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering.
Relevant management qualification (MDP).
Demonstrated competence as a generalist in O&M management
10 years’ experience in a production plant environment, preferably in power plants, at least 7 years of which should have been in the capacity of Maintenance or Operations Manager.
Knowledge of the main database platforms used – ( MS Office)
Knowledge of the Republic of South Africa job market, working practices, and customs is preferred
Experience working within a multi-cultural environment is preferred
Knowledge and experience of joint venture operations within a multinational business environment
Proven delegation skills and ability to create a work climate where people are empowered to take action
Excellent communication skills, and capability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels
Ability to act independently to prioritize, initiate, resolve and complete actions required to take the business forward to meet goals
Leading and managing people
Interaction with operation, maintenance, administration, and HSE
Experience in dealing with government authorities is mandatory
Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders
Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure that the facility is operated with optimum efficiency, availability and safety in accordance with the requirements of the power purchase agreement, good utility practice, and all applicable laws and regulations.
The Head of OYA Energy O&M plays a leadership role in promoting SHEQ procedures and guidelines onsite.
Develop, establish, and ensure effective and efficient implementation of policies and standards for power plant operation and maintenance.
Ensure that the maintenance tasks are going to take place on the required dates, but also that such practices do not interfere with the plant production and performance goals fixed for the daily operation of the plant.
Ensure implementation of effective and economical operating methods and techniques and identify technology changes, which can be implemented to advance the same.
Develop and ensure implementation of plans and procedures to achieve safe operation, optimum availability and operating efficiency of the power plant in respect of the environmental applicable requirements.
Keep updated guidelines and procedures.
Organising and coordinating required technical training to enhance the professional skills of the O&M team.
Encourage team members, provide guidance promote staff development, and develop a highly capable O&M team.
Ensure and direct implementation of efficient and effective maintenance methods and techniques.
Analyse and study operating maintenance costs and take necessary measures as required.
Establish and ensure the maintenance of effective monitoring and reporting systems.
Ensure that an adequate number of personnel is available to effectively carry out plant activities in a safe and productive manner
Coordinate and control relations with the Owner, necessary for the accomplishment of the function and ensure that staff is kept informed of technical developments in fields of present or potential
interest.
Provide the Owner with a summary of the daily log sheet, daily performance report, monthly performance as well as operating and maintenance activities with any recommendations for modification and an annual report.
Ensure that incident reports with caused and remedial actions are forwarded to the Company’s management and Owner.
Confirm and approve all purchase requisitions initiated by Department Heads and Section Heads.
Establishment of a long-term strategic planning of all major maintenance activities.
Encourage team members, provide guidance promote staff development, and develop a highly capable O&M team.
Approve recommendations for spare parts purchases made by Department Heads.
Chair weekly meetings with Department Heads to discuss operating conditions, maintenance progress, and any difficulties and plan activities for the following week.
Ensure operation and maintenance is in line with the O&M Contract.
