Dear Sir/Madam My name is Zama Khoza. I have completed my Diploma in Consumer Sciences : Food and Nutrition at Durban University of Technology. As part of my modules. I did food production management where I was working at University restaurant preparing different meals for both management and students, we also catered for functions such as senate. I was also given a chance to act as a front of house and back of house manager where I had to do menu planning, food order, costing , give other students tasks to do and ensure hygiene and safety of food. From this experience I have improved my cooking skills, administrative skills and become a strong team player. I am also doing Food and Food Science where I am learning culinary skills and improving writing skills since we do lot of paper. I was part of McCain project where we were required to develop an innovative and healthy recipe for McCain this opportunity made me realize that I am capable of developing recipe and make it cost effective. As part of my modules I studied Food Microbiology and Food Science where I learnt about food safety and quality control, I have good understanding of HACCP and regulations. I know the three types of hazards. Food production is also one of the modules that gave me a chance to practice what I learnt about food safety and quality control. During this course I worked at DUT’s restaurant and I was given a chance to work as HACCP Officer my task was to ensure that there is no cross contamination of food, ingredients kept on correct temperature, ensure that the kitchen is clean, check that everyone is wearing correct personal protective equipment such as safety shoes. Also ensure food is cooked and served in correct temperature. I have gained more experience in Food industry when I was doing work Integrated learning at Mandate Meal Management canteen at Spar KZN where my duties were to do costing, stock taking, placing and receiving orders, menu planning, food preparation for Spar Management functions, food service assisting (making salads, sandwiches and serving customers) and issuing ingredient for chefs. I am confident that my skills will contribute to your company’s achievement. I have strong management and team working skill to help this company in running smooth and well. I will give all my time and effort to concentrate in completing my tasks on time. Should you be prepared to offer me this position I would bring my personal qualities of commitment, enthusiasm, and initiative as well as a cooking and administrative skills I have developed from my studies. I pride myself that I have developed my interpersonal skills. I also believe that I am a good team player. I have good food skills.
