I see myself as a capable supply chain and logistics controller who gained knowhow in management of pathology pickup and delivery routes while providing top-notch customer service to laboratories and doctors in the healthcare industries. From my teaching profession I have gained the following transferable skills to the logistics industry: Communication Being a high school teacher I have develop strong communication skills that equipped me with the ability to impart information to others by speaking, writing, mentoring and coaching. These skills assist me to know when and how to ask questions, how to read body language and how to talk to people, being it superiors, colleagues, students or their parents. Dependability In my previous employment punctuality, organization and responsibility were key performance areas. I see myself as trustworthy with the tenacity to accomplish tasks well and in a timely manner, while successfully managing relationships, assignments and goals in the workplace. Teamwork Although teaching seems like an individual effort, the ability to work with others towards a common goal is key not only in teaching but also in extramural activities such as sport coaching. Effective teamwork required several qualities or traits from me such as empathy, active listening and strong communication. Organization To be successful and effective as a teacher one needs to be a well-organized person that has strong, neat structure in his/her workspace, tasks and relationships. Key performance areas in the profession are typically to meet deadlines, communicate well with others in a timely manner and effectively follow instructions, policies and protocols. Adaptability In my previous job engagements my adaptability skills were leverage to a great extend. During my student years I worked in Kuilsriver Private hospital one day as a Cathlab porter, the next day as a pathology driver rushing specimen and results to and from pathology laboratories and the next day assume responsibility for the road control (dispatching) of the network of pathology vehicles on the road. Being a teacher it demands from you to be firm at one stage, emphatic the next moment and then a mentor and a coach. Leadership As a leader I have built and honed effective traits such as communication, relationship building and dependability. Besides being a teacher with its many faces I was also contracted as an independent examiner of matric exams and often have lead my team responsible for mathematics and science papers. Technology literacy I have not only studied in the utilization of technology (especially excel, Word and Power point). I am a quick leaner and am convince that It will not take long to master job specific software solutions. Further Studies I realise that I will be hard to make any inroads and/or progress in a non-teaching environment without improving my skills. I am busy with a diploma in Supply Chain Management through UCT in order to formally study in the logistics field and will be finished in December 2019. I'm also busy enrolling with UNISA in order to formally study in the logistics filed, by registering for the 2020 academic year for a post grad diploma in Business Administration as a first step to continues lifelong studies in this field. The idea is to qualify myself in Supply chain management and anomaly-based analytics. That will assist in budget management and improving efficiency through effective management, strategic scheduling and streamlined operations.
