My name is Letaoana Tshepiso, a student at the University of Free State, Qwa Qwa campus. I am doing honours this year (2020), majoring in Botanical studies and gratefully funded by the National Research Fund (NRF). All the studies and the project under this honours degree will render me with fruitful skills that will abundantly help me along the way to reaching my goal. To name a few: constructing research, extracting and determining medicinal properties from plant materials and many more. As a single mother, it has been a challenging journey for me to get to where I am, but I never for once regret the decisions I have made to be where I am today and proud of ever being persistent and refusing ever to give up. However tough it was along the way, I pushed and told myself that tomorrow I will do even better than today and that is how I was able to move forward and gained more knowledge each day. My main interest is in pharmaceutical sciences, particularly the branch of making medicine. As it is, I have come to realize that I am strangely fascinated of learning about particular diseases and having the urge of wanting to find a particular cure for each. My curiosity makes my reading seem like a strange addiction because most of the time one seems to be consumed into another real and forgotten about the real world a while. Most importantly, having to see people (especially the elderly and children) suffering because of a pain their body is experiencing and seeing there is nothing they can do about it tears me apart. I grew up in a rural area, not much has changed until today. One day I hope to be able to help the less fortunate especially in my community as most cannot even afford to visit doctors for thorough evaluations and are only limited to clinics. And lastly, there are young people out there that need to be reminded every day that is never too late, people have different talents and they should be encouraged to use them to the best of their abilities. Moreover, they should never forget to dream as big as they want to and work hard to support their dreams in making them come true because you can never expect a dream to come true if you are not doing anything to propel it to success. I am still eager to learn more and gain working experience out there in the world as well, to build if not better myself. I thank you.
