I am passionate about addressing inequality and injustice in South Africa and on the African continent. I am a black South African and have lived through apartheid and schooled in the most socio-economically disadvantaged, crime-ridden, gang and drug- infested cape flats ghettos and schools in Cape Town. I have lived here for more than 30 years and also have several degrees (B.A., H.D.E., MPhil.) from the University of Cape Town, South Africa and working on a Ph.D. (ABD) in Applied Linguistics at The Pennsylvania State University in the USA. With an additional combined 11 years’ experience living, studying, teaching and working in academia and university administration and programming in the United States overall, I have over 20 years’ experience in strategic planning, business development, managing & directing organisations, programme management and operational and financial administration in both South African and American contexts and it ranges from public to private academic, NGO/NPO and start-up settings. Consequently, I am interested in continuing on to the next level, while at the same time bringing my knowledge, talents and skills to perform the duties associated with this position. My fundamental skills encompass the management of staff, workflow, 150+ grant programmes, negotiate & manage external contracts with suppliers & consultants, philanthropic fundraising, alumni relations, mentorship management, event management of international speakers/guests, communication and PR, leadership, financial, strategic and operational management, materials development, manage/review curriculum & course development, educational project management, monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) assessments & course evaluations, accreditation, stakeholder management & maintaining relations, staff/team development, communications, research, mentoring and supervision. I have experience in actively developing and managing high-functioning teams of staff and building successful working relationships with local and international colleagues and stakeholders from a wide range of backgrounds including working with local and international funders. In addition to the above skills, I also have extensive experience in teaching, training, mentoring and supervisory skills. This myriad of experiences has provided me with intercultural fluency skills, creative problem solving, active listening, and social responsibility as a leader, to resolve ambiguity and conflict and support and develop individuals and teams to be accountable to both budgets and organisational vision.
