I am Tlotliso Mapana, a 26-year-old student at the University of Cape Town. I am currently enrolled for my final year of Master of Science in Engineering (Radar). Throughout my engineering studies I have developed software solutions as part of my various student projects. One of these projects was a software-defined radio project where the task was to remotely access and transmit radar data using a software-defined radar prototype. Since enrolling in the radar master’s program, I have gained extensive software development skills, particularly in Python and C/C++ environments. My current project involves developing and improving a processing chain for airborne radar data – extracting information about a scene and producing a radar image, and correcting motion errors that occur during flights. Although I have been focused on the software aspect of this project, I am also attuned to the hardware infrastructure.
