In a time when funerals involve much more than merely the laying to rest of loved ones, one has learned how to perform numerous tasks skilfully and in an organised manner while performing my duties as part of my working experience. From having to preform office work, to dealing with fragile, diverse and at times overly demanding clients. To acting as a secretary filling forms, assistant organising venues, decorating them and coordinating various functions. At times I even had to address office conflicts. Also while assisting in the caring and cleaning of individuals’ belongings. All this whilst tackling the demands and stresses of being a full time student, pushing one’s self to improve in all areas. Always striving to accomplish one’s best in all tasks, one has learnt how to adapt and acquire new skills quickly. One’s adaptability has also been tested at times as one had the opportunity at a young age to live in the United Kingdom, moved back to South Africa and go back for occasional visits. As a result of my travels to the UK however, as young as I was at the time, one did not at first develop the same fluency with my mother tongue of isiZulu as I did with English. Having started my basic education in the UK, one had to relearn how to speak isiZulu and interact with the diverse South African culture as one completed one’s education here. After interacting with such diverse environments as one has, I have learnt how to function as part of a group, independently, as a leader and follower when needed. During my high school years one had the privilege of taking on the responsibilities of being a library monitor and then as deputy head girl. One did not stop there but achieved numerous academic rewards as top achiever in English numerous times and even accomplished a distinction in isiZulu my matric year despite earlier difficulties with the language. Aside from my experience in funeral proceedings and laundry duties, one has had the opportunity to assist other young individuals improve their academic performance by means of tutoring and editing. One has further learnt how to apply one’s studies in an entrepreneurial role. Such has afforded one insights into strategic positioning and business operations. One is seeking out an opportunity to acquire new skills and experiences. To test one’s skills and establish one’s self in this competitive professional world more firmly. I appeal to be granted an opportunity to achieve such and continue in this never ending journey of learning, improving and evolving that is life, even more earnestly during these restricting times.
