Ndikhumbule Ngqinambi is a South African artist/painter based in Cape Town. He was born in 1977. Though he studied at Community Arts Project, but he is mostly a self-thought visual artist. His work is inspired by sound film, body movement and dance. He describes his work as ‘extreme figurative expression’. His figurative painting reflects social - international, as well as South African political landscape. He is currently working on a project called, “The Upright Ones”. It is about a thin line between justice and mercy. It involves a fictional leader who grooms modern AI integrated, unstoppable, smart and righteous solders, whose mission is to protect a certain precious land, and its people from vicious and merciless leaders, who kill and squander all the resource of that land. This work explores link between screenplay writing, and painting. Ndikhumbule has won several artist residencies; In 2017 he was invited to take part in a residency at Iaspis Sweden, Recommended by Prof Sarat Mahaj. In 2013 he was awarded a residency at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Germany. In 2012 he won a Foundation Brachere residency award at the Dak’art Biennale in Senegal. In 2011 he was Awarded a Peter Denzig and Lava Thomas residency award at Djerassi Artist residency in California, USA. At the same year, he participated in residency at Sacater Bahia Brazil. He did several solo exhibitions locally and internationally, and this include exhibition in museums, such, experimental project spaces, as well as commercial galleries. He has worked with galleries such as Everard Read, Barnard Gallery, and Ebony. He currently runs a multi-media arts company called IMSW – Image Movement and Sound works based in Cape Town.
