Who am I? I am Michael Brooks, a qualified, energized, welcoming, friendly, uplifting, hardworking, dedicated and humble South African Sports Scientist. Sometimes people find themselves in a dilemma on where they would like to be in life and which path they would like to follow. I found myself caught in that dilemma when choosing what I wanted to do my honours in. I was caught between Biokinetics or Sports Science, rehab or performance. I made the decision to go into Sports Science because at the end of the day its not just a job that pays the bills but a career choice which I have a passion for. I was never good at sports in my younger years, to be honest I was pathetic at sport. It was only in the 8th grade when I actually found my niche sport (water polo), I was overweight and bullied for being “obese”, but once I started playing water polo and my coach who guided me in striving to be better and motivating me to get into the water and try again if I failed the first time, I started to lose weight and started to feel appreciated as I excelled in the sport. I found myself involved in 6 sports by the end of the 9th grade as I felt a passion had ignited inside of me, started by my water polo coach. I ended up becoming a competent sportsman and getting recognized by those who once bullied me for being overweight. For me I feel that I can implement the same change in those who feel they cannot push harder or feel that they are not worthy enough to partake in sport, the same change that was instilled in me by my coach. I have a passion to help an individual strive to be better than they were the previous day and to work towards an end goal. I feel that so many athletes fall out of programs because of a “bad” coach, a coach that doesn’t motivate, a coach that doesn’t push, a coach that is not willing to adapt. It is my goal to be better than that, to motivate my athletes, to instil excellence in everything that I do as well as to carry that over to my athletes, to be a friend and a coach and to be a doer. What makes me, me… I am an original, there is no one else in the world like me. I am founded in Christ Jesus and created in His image. My kindness and welcoming personality make those around me feel at ease. I am driven and energetic, always looking for something to do. I am a friendly, well-mannered, happy individual willing to go the extra mile.
