Over the past decade he has managed integrated corporate communications, government relations, transformation programmes, crisis communications, community relations and development for various corporates. He has a sharp understanding of the South Africa’s political arena, the economy of business, government and parliamentary processes and connectivity. Recently Mandla played a significant role in the Black Business Council and Tshwane University of Technology collaboration in the establishment of the Economic Transformation Research and Policy Centre (ETRPC). • Currently (consulting) Managing Parliamentary Affairs and Policy advocacy at Black Business Council (BBC), Black Business Chamber (BBC) and Pogresive Proffesional Forum (PPF). since November 2018, he has been sourced to specifically overhaul the BBC Parliamentary Affairs and Policy Center, develop engagement framework and processes including internal capacity building within the Black Business Council. And currently llobbying for policies that will position South Africa as an attractive investment destination and Policies that are conducive for economic growth and compliance with BBBEE codes. • Through a series of engagements with the various Parliamentary Portfolio Committees in Parliamnet, BBC is now key policy influecer and policy advocay as well as recognided as formal and key stakeholder of all the houses of parliament • Mandla has established good relations between business and government and already made oral presentations on behalf of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) in parliament on the constitutional Review Committee (land expropriation without compensation). Oral presentation on Carbon Tax and on Sugar Tax). • Through a series of engagements with the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Economic Development as a Corporate Affairs Manager at South32 Mining Company, it led to a subsequent oversight visit by Parliamentarians who inspected all the Social Labour Plans and Enterprise and Supplier Development Programmes and recognising the company as one of the industry benchmarks in driving community focused transformation. • He formed a solid collaborative pact with the regional DMR Inspectorate, Eskom and Regulatory and facilitated the fast-tracking of the approval of the power agreements guarantees between Eskom and South32 and securing a licence to operate. At South32 it was for the 1st time it singed a power agreements with 20year guarantees. • He also provides senior counsel to the Senior Vice President Operations and EXCO on CSI, Visible-Felt-Leadership and Reputation Management, Community liaison, government relations and stakeholder communication. Mandla is well-seasoned in designing stakeholder engagement frame-works using international best practice standards (AA1000 Stakeholder Engagement Standard (SES) 2015) establishing well-grounded internal and external support structures which enables corporate intelligence gathering and decision making. Mandla has a deeper understanding of the fossil power, nuclear power and renewable energy industry where he has managed communication ,government relations and stakeholder relations (public participation). • In 2011, as Eskom Senior Advisor Stekeholder Mnagement and Communication, Mandla Managed and facilitated South Africa’s largest launch of a renewable energy project in Upington, the 100 MW Concentrated Solar Plant. The launch was attended by Dr. Rob Davies, Minister of Trade and Industry, Premier of the Northern Cape, Minister of Saudi Arabia Trade and Industry, Dr. Tawfig Alrabia, and various senior industry leaders. The combined digital and traditional media coverage was over R20 million within a week. • During COP17 conference, Eskom faced with a transition challenge from fossil fuels to renewables. Mandla led the entire Eskom business rebranding and issue management through a strategic set of engagement between Eskom and COP17 various stakeholders. Amongst the challenge here included the need of new identity for Eskom and deep mistrust and uneasiness of employees towards the new trajectory that Eskom has to follow. It was during this period that Eskom repostioned and made new commitments to invest in the renewables. The relations between the Eskom and indepandant power producers improved significantly leading to power purchase agreements. • In 2012, as the Senior Advisor stakeholder management for Sere project at Eskom, Mnadla played a strategic engagement role in getting then Deputy President of South Africa, Kgalema Mothlanthe together with the Eskom and Siemens leadership to visit and sign a cooperation agreement in Germany that will see Siemens investing more into the country’s energy sector. It was during this period that he managed the launching of SERE Project Wind Farm, the first under Eskom’s renewables programme. He also played a key role in engaging with World Bank, French Development Bank, Africand Development Bank to visit the Sere Project in South Africa resulting in the signing of cooperation agreement between Eskom and these financial institutions. • During 2013-2015, Mandla is credited for managing the transformation programme of Eskom Sere Wind project, in which he developed over 20 SMME’s through a comprehensive enterprise and supplier development programme. It was during this period that his initiatives improved the company’s spend with local communities SMME’s from R10 million to R30 million in just a year. Sere Project subsequently voted as a Project of the year. which is much credit to Mandla’s innovation and management approach. • Between 2011 and 2014, Mandla led a National Nuclear Public participation between the Northern Cape, Western Cape and Eastern Cape. The public participation which led public acceptance to go ahead with construction of new nuclear power plants. • Mandla has wide knowledge of the energy, manufacturing,business associations and mining sector as well as thorough experience in thought leadership events such as Windaba, Power Africa, CSP Focus, Oil & Gas Week, FILDA (Mozambique), Africa Energy Indaba and others.
