I graduated from INTEC College in 2010 where I earned my certificate in Journalism and Creative writing. I am an experienced General News Journalist who started my career in 2013 as an intern journalist at The BEAT community newspaper in Bela-Bela, Limpopo Province. At this humble yet reputable newspaper I engaged with the local community, earned the trust of the local authorities; such as the police, traffic department, medical assistance groups and yes even the local municipality. After the end of my 10-month long practicum, the newspaper offered me the position of working for them on a full-time basis and their sister publication The Post as a freelancer. As a Junior correspondent I reported on a cocktail of stories; from breaking crimes such as farm attacks and robberies to hard hitting community news stories like protest marches and dangerous community unrests. I have also had the opportunity to report on the light and entertaining (What an experience it was to interview great celebrities such as DJ Fresh and the late Mandoza!) My skills in the newsroom are not only limited to compelling story telling, but I am also able to assist with editing and grammar checking as well as accurate translation from English to Afrikaans. It was with this in mind that The Post offered me even more responsibility where I contributed to their weekly Pet column and monthly Consumer guide. The experience at the two publications has taught me to be persistent, informative and patiently engaging with clientele and the readership as a whole. I do not see myself as someone who can only be confined to a newsroom environment, but I can also act as a major creative asset for corporate companies i.e copy writing, communication, fact checking, innovative thinking and strategic marketing. I am confident that my experience publishing and promoting content on both printed and social media would benefit your company going forward.
