Cover Letter : Jabulani Nene I am the Process, Innovations and Technology Manager for Unilever, in Johannesburg across two Unilever Manufacturing sites. The first is a washing powder processing plant and the other a liquid detergents plant. Collectively the sites have close to 500 employees , producing 400 000 tons of Laundry powders and liquids and household cleaning products The following powerful brands are made here: Omo Handwash , Skip Auto Powder, Domestos , Sunlight Dish liquid, Handy Andy , Comfort Fabric Softener amongst others. Through my past 5 years at Unilever , of which 3 years I have been in a management role , I have developed the following skills Skills Project management, Powders and liquid detergents technology , bottling technology , packaging machine design , end of line automation , innovation management , change management, capital expenditure proposals , presentation skills , people management, worker union negotiations , lean focused improvement Project Management Background Throughout my career I have participated and lead numerous projects. 2015-2016 As a graduate process engineer in 2015 I lead value improvement and innovations projects for the powder manufacturing site One of my biggest achievements is leading Project Sapphire , which introduced a antifoam that is activated at the rinse phase of fabric hand washing. This function then allowed for less water during rinsing, which effectively delivered against the target of contributing to water conservation in Southern Africa. Here I lead the factory execution of this solution , compiling project networks using Microsoft Projects , leading project team meetings to review actions and timelines as it was very critical to land the project with the targeted budget, timeline and ship to trade commitments to retail customers. 2016-2018 Across this period I worked as a projects delivery engineer , again building into my project management experience. I managed a 8 months project , that looked at both relocating packaging lines and buying new machinery to package Domestos Bleach and Sunlight Dish Liquid and Handy Andy 750ml Pouches Post this I was promoted to Planning Manager for the site, managing all logistics ,production planning , material planning with a team of 3 planners reporting to me. The site has up 30 products, 9 production lines and up to 130 000 tons per year. Current Scope My key deliverables are to lead and manage a team of 6 engineers. 3 per site , to achieve the following : Innovations - product development with the Research and Development Durban based team - design and execution of main plant trials , both Feasibility and Capability - product innovation and execution - product value improvement projects - innovations and renovations to drive value in product portfolio Plant Support - end of line automation for operational efficiency - packaging optimization - focused improvements - early equipment management -PVA, OEE plans , long term capacity planning -operational support and supplier resilience Technology and Project Management design , deploy , install and commission end of like automation equipment Lead installation and commission of all new machinery Lead the early equipment management pillar to build capability of project leads to do rigorous project management focused on vertical ramp up , design review and cost control.
