After 6 years of teaching and 2 years of owning a business, in November 2021, I started working at Valenture Institute as a learning / instructional designer for the subject Mathematical Literacy. In partnership with the University of Cape Town (UCT) the UCT online High School was born with the aim of providing good quality education for everyone, despite their demographical background, race or culture. As an experienced instructional designer, I have a proven track record of developing and implementing successful instructional programs. I have a deep understanding of how to create instructional materials that are both engaging and effective. I am also skilled in using various educational software programs and tools. Currently I am constantly making my developed content more engaging by incorporating various H5P elements, informative graphics designed by me and self-recorded and edited videos on our Moodle course platform. This has quickly made me realise how much I enjoy doing instructional design and has sparked a fascination with and eagerness to learn more about programming and web design. Because of my experience in teaching and running a business in South Africa (known as the rainbow nation due to our various cultural, racial and ethnic groups in the country) I am able to successfully work with a and engage in a multi-cultural environment. I thrive on working with different people and definitely consider myself a strong team player. I am also not scared to take on any leadership roles if needed. In South Africa we have 11 official spoken languages. I can fluently speak Afrikaans (very similar to Dutch) and English and have learnt a little bit of Zulu, Xhosa and Sepedi throughout the years of growing up in this culturally diverse country. I pride myself in my strong communication and intra personal skills. Most importantly, I am passionate about helping people reach their full potential. I firmly believe that all humans deserve to be treated fairly and equally despite their race, religion, age, sexual orientation, culture and nationality. I believe that everyone has the ability to learn, and I am dedicated to finding the best instructional methods for individuals in different scenarios.
