I graduated in December 2018 with distinctions in Fine Arts from the University of Stellenbosch, and am very enthusiastic and passionate about art. I have been trained in sculpture- with woodwork as well as metalwork and welding, plaster, concrete, cement, and mould making (including the use of casts, moldmax 30 and 60, as well as epoxy resin); oil and acrylic painting, pencil and charcoal drawing, photography, and printmaking (etching, lithography, cyanotype, regular and watercolour screen printing, intaglio, drypoint, monotype, and linocuts). Your advertisement mentioned the ability to master the modelling of clay and wax, which I have been trained in as well, and I have used these substances when creating textures or casting. I have also had experience in restoring artworks and sculptures, and have a very steady hand and keen eye for minute details and good craftsmanship. Furthermore, I have been involved in making many small, intricate objects as well as larger constructions for sets and props- most recently I assisted with the building of the set for “Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”, a production for the Playhouse Theatre, Somerset West, 2019, as well as making some of the props and set dressing for “South Pacific”, a production in Artscape Theatre 2019. I don’t mind getting involved in physically challenging work, as well as in handling power tools and other equipment. I can work under pressure and stick to time constraints, and have had experience working with administration and other people, developed excellent communication skills, and have been a very competent and reliable member of the staff teams in which I have worked previously. I worked for a year at the “SMAC Art Gallery” (Stellenbosch), a gallery with international recognition, and was most recently employed as the Curator at the “Dyman Gallery” (Stellenbosch). In this role I organised exhibitions, selected artists and artworks, wrote about the concepts behind contemporary art, and worked closely with collectors, other galleries, clients, and artists, as well as planned national and international Art Fairs. I also used my position as a gallery curator to educate the public on the role of modern and contemporary art in society, as education and communication is very important to me. This I extend not only to the field of Fine Art but to other creative fields as well, in this case particularly that of theatre, dance, and drama. I have a high level of computer literacy, and am proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, Filemaker, Final Cut (video editing), and Word and Excel. I can understand Afrikaans fluently, and my English is very good, as I have also worked as an English editor and proofreader for University Students Research papers. In 2017 I progressed to the “Gradstar Top 100”, an award recognising South Africa’s top 100 up-and-coming graduates in terms of leadership and entrepreneurship.
